Pennsyvlania Energy EfficiencyEnergy Audit InformationThere are roughly 128 million homes in the United States with over 50% of energy use coming from heating, air conditioning, and lighting. Fifty percent of electricity generated in the US comes from coal burning plants. By performing an Energy Audit on 1,000,000 homes, that would be the equivalent of taking 250,000 cars off the road* The average Energy Audit will save homeowners $70 per month. If we retrofitted 1 million homes this year, that would lead to $840 million in new household income over 12 months. Talk about an economic stimulus! *Data from the Pew Center on Global Climate Change Why Start with an Energy Audit? The Energy Audit is an assessment of your home through the lens of an energy efficiency professional. Like a doctor who does a physical before he prescribes you medicine, the energy evaluator gathers all the critical data before providing the roadmap to make your house more energy efficient. Think of the energy evaluator as a doctor for your house.
The Energy Audit ProcessThe Energy Audit process typically lasts 3 hours and is performed by a Building Performance Institute(BPI) accredited Home Performance Contractor or by a HERS Rater. You will receive a comprehensive report detailing the findings and suggested improvements. This report is neededed for the Energy Efficiency Mortgage. After the Energy Audit, a Home Performance Contractor will perform the work on your home. His skills include installing insulation, caulking leakages, installing windows, pressure testing, installing radiant barriers and much more. He and his team will provide courteous, professional service with the goal of completeling the project in a timely manner What is a HERS rating? In addition to a report on the findings of the evaluation, the contractor may provide you with a number rating. This rating, or HERS (Home Energy Rating System), provides an energy score for your house. Think of it as Miles per Gallon (MPG) for your house.
